September Menu Challenge 25 August, 2008

Filed under: General, Recipes, Menu Plans — Bel @ 6:06 pm

I am going to set a challenge to myself to try 20 new recipes in September.  Most will be main meals, some could be baking or sweets of some kind.  I’m hoping that this challenge will bring some variety to our menu, which seems to be lacking lately…

I’ve been to the library and have 3 great vego recipe books to browse, plus the seemingly limitless amount of recipes on the ‘net, and those shared at Simple Savings and Menu Plan Monday - I don’t think 20 will be too difficult to achieve!

If you’d like to join in, please do!  Leave a comment to say so, and I’ll come by and see how you’re doing.  Happy recipe hunting!

    Hi Bel,

I need to work on trying more new recipes. I usually plan one or two each week but these tend to be the meals that get missed. I have been in a bit of a rut with my meals so I will try to follow your lead next month.

Looking forward to seeing your new recipes. Hopefully September won’t be as busy as August and I can join in..

  3. Bel Says:

Oooh, I’m getting worried! I have soooo many visitors in September - what if my recipes are duds?

  4. Bel Says:

Okay, the Broccoli pasta sauce was GOOD, the slow cooked potato bake in onion sauce was YUM and the different type of stirfry (very green) was DELISH. That’s 3 new recipes I’ve tried, and two I’ve skipped!

We also had an antipasto platter night instead of frittatas, and that’s a new meal for us, so can I count it toward our goal of 20?

With baking this week I tried a new variation of the Five Cup Cake and dug up another date loaf recipe, which I’ll post here. So there’s another couple of new recipes toward the tally…

Week one, and I’m doing okay so far.

Into week two now and I’ve made a lovely soup, and a new pasta sauce and a fantastic pizza base to add to the list of recipes above…

I think the tally is at about nine new recipes so far, so we’re looking good for achieving this challenge. I’ll add the new recipes throughout the month, as time permits. Enjoy!

Well, I added new recipes to the blog as promised. Now I’m up to 12 new recipes tried for the month, I think, I need to do a proper tally! The gnocchi and enchiladas were great, the patties were so-so. I’ll keep posting recipes and do a proper Challenge update at the end of the month. How are others going?

  7. Bel Says:

    Here’s the list:
    sweet corn & bean enchiladas
    slow cooker potato bake
    cannelini bean pasta sauce
    frittata
    creamy broccoli sauce
    brown lentil & vegetable soup
    pizza bases
    gnocchi
    chickpea patties
    the green stirfry
    pasta salad
    the antipasto platter meal
    date loaf
    passionfruit icing

I don’t think I’ll make it! But I’m going to ask for an extension due to having such a busy month full of visitors… I’ll make it to 20 yet, promise!

  8. Bel Says:

    Add to the list:
Scrolls (chilli/sesame and tomato/cheese) for lunch
    Sweet Potato/Rice/Pea Patties

    That’s 16, and counting…

  9. Bel Says:

The curry last Friday was #17…

    And counting!

PS - will add the good recipes soon!

  10. Bel Says:

Bean Patties and Impossible Pie got me to 19 new recipes tried in September! How did others go? I’m off to check your blogs to find out. ;)

  11. Bel Says:

Oh, and if I count the Aioli, I really did make it to 20 new recipes! Yay!

  12. Kez Says:

Not sure how many I did - I may have got to 10? I need to count them up?
