October vanished and summer arrived. The days have been lovely - sunshine and a cool breeze. But that sun has a bite to it already!

AT HOME: More real estate ups and downs with so many inspections, a couple of contracts and lots of organising going on here. At the moment it’s the focus of our lives, and November should be when everything pays off. Hooray! Stay tuned…We had to buy a new washing machine last week as we couldn’t get the part needed for ours. The new one is a front loader - very energy and water efficient and very clever too! I’m getting used to using it.

I’ve been doing a bit of sewing, which I always enjoy. These are cloth pullups/trainer pants and they’re really soft and cute!

AT WORK: I’m researching for a feature on younger parents homeschooling for a coming issue of Education Choices. Anyone with something to share please contact me! If you haven’t been to the magazine’s website for awhile, check it out. There’s a bookstore and downloads as well as Eleanor’s blog, contacts and more.

I am still working on the chapter for Rhonda’s book. Hopefully I’ll have it to her this month, she has been very patient!
I will be resuming my seasonal columns in Natural Parenting Magazine from the Summer issue. These are often available to read on the website as well. I also publish some of the early ones on this site at the change of season - check the archives. This third series will be different from the previous columns. I hope you enjoy them!

Seeds can be purchased directly via email and current stock is listed on the seeds page.

IN THE GARDEN: We’ve enjoyed some mulburries from our tree - they’re a long, pink variety and very sweet. We’ve had more grumichamas, our first abiu and quite a few tropical nectarines as well. The pumpkin vines are going mad with the hot weather and there are some huge Jap pumpkins out there. The chokos have made a comeback - probably the final crop before the vine dies back a bit for the summer (the opposite of what it does in colder climes). We’re getting bunches of bananas fairly regularly now, which is a real treat considering that they’re still very expensive up here post Cyclone Larry.

From the vegie patch we’re still harvesting herbs, eggplant, capsicum, lettuce, various greens, button squash, leeks, celery, roma tomatoes and bucketfuls of cherry tomatoes. The mint, nasturtiums and sweet potatoes have overtaken their part of the garden and they’re creeping out through the fence and beyond. The cherry tomato vines are growing up trees and over fences, they’re so prolific. I pulled up three large vines which threatened to come up into the carport and were overtaking paths…
HOME ED.: All of the kids have moved on to new books recently, which is an achievement. Brit is doing a Year 9/10 Maths in Society course and reading a lot. She loves plays and drama. Lily is painting a lot and has a similar style to Immi, they are both very talented. Abby and Bryce are breezing along with ease. With all that’s going on, we’re keeping ’schoolwork’ fairly simple, which is always a nice way to end the year…
