We have had a couple of weeks of blissful sunshine. Yum! April has seen us try to get into some routines and rhythms, picking up things we’ve neglected since before our initial move last year!

AT HOME: We had a great housewarming party in April with lots of old friends and most of the crew from work. The weather was perfect and it was a fantastic night. It started a bit of an entertaining roll, and we had another BBQ and Italian feast to follow. What a blessing to be surrounded by friends, enjoying cool clear nights with good food and good wine. The slab for the back room was poured during April. We also became proud owners of a pot belly stove with very attractive surrounds. One step at a time, the desired changes are occuring (or seeming closer at least!)
AT WORK: I am looking forward to attending the conference in Brisbane this month. The program has a lot to offer all homeschooling families.

I finally finished an overdue piece for a friend’s book project.

I’m speaking with two friends about collaborating on projects in the future. I wonder if these will join the other couple of things on my backburner or they’ll come to fruition?

Work on Education Choices material is fairly constant, with the conference throwing deadlines out a little.

ON THE FARM: We received some beautiful fruit trees as housewarming gifts, and I’ve purchased more. Now to figure out where to dig the holes and whose job it is to dig them!

The macadamia harvest is slowing and the treese are starting to flower.

I have crammed a lot of seedlings into the existing gardens and I’m a little impatient about starting the ‘real’ garden. Until my earthworking and building skills improve, I will need to employ my patience skills…

One bantam hen laid one egg last week. That’s the total contribution from the frizzy flock so far! We have ordered half a dozen laying hens and a rooster for them, which we’ll collect this month. Having chooks is a delight even without the eggs, though.

I saw three snakes whilst attending to the horses with a friend a couple of weeks ago. Two were tree snakes and one was a Rough-scaled snake or Clarence River snake. (Tropidechis carinatus).

We’ve been learning about weed control and have agreed to a pest management plan with the local council. They seem encouraging and flexible with regard to this matter at least.

HOME ED.: Apart from Easter break, we’ve been catching up and settling down. The libraries here are really good, and the four older children are reading a lot. They’ve also rediscovered some of our own series of books. Other activities of April include - learning to twirl poi, stilt walking, lots of knitting, catching and identifying (and releasing) mice, exploring our block, visiting and welcoming visitors and gardening. Life’s good.
