A ~ Aprons–y/n If y, what does your fav. look like?
Yes, and I just bought a new one this week. I was planning to sew one, but after months of wearing a torn PVC one I came across an apron covered in chickens in a local gift store and just had to have it! The PVC one will still be good for haircuts and painting though.
B ~ Baking–Favorite thing to bake?
Easy cakes and loaves like date loaf, banana cake, carrot cake - with plenty of dried fruit, nuts, wholemeal flour etc so they’re heavy and dark.
C ~ Clothes line?
I have two - one outdoors where it’s most often rainy and one in the carport which I use daily. I also use the dryer too much, according to my latest power bill. Ouch.
D ~ Donuts–Have you ever made them?
Never! Well, when I worked in a cafe as a student, I have, but not at home or without a machine…
E ~ Everyday–One homemaking thing you do everyday?
Make my bed. I never used to, but it’s lovely at night to crawl into a made bed. Some would probably call my version of a “made” bed messy, but so long as it’s fairly smooth and the covers pulled up, I’m happy!
F ~ Freezer–Do you have a separate deep freeze?
I have a stand-alone freezer which is part of a pigeon pair. It’s packed with bulk-cooked meals, bread, mountain bread, nuts, dried fruit, grains, rice, flour, snacks for my husband’s lunchbox, extra butter, frozen lemon juice, grated carrot and other odd things! There’s one big fillet of Spanish Mackeral in there, we don’t have any other meat.
G ~ Garbage Disposer?
Scary!
H ~ Handbook–What is your favorite homemaking resource?
The internet.
I ~ Ironing–Love it or Hate it? Or hate it but love the results?
Hate it. Only iron just prior to going out, if necessary.
J ~ Junk Drawer–y/n? Where is it?
I guess. We have a “miscellaneous” drawer in the kitchen, but it’s quite organised. I also have a bowl where I throw bits and bobs I find to put away later - screws, birthday cards, pieces of games, beads, packs of seeds etc.
K ~ Kitchen–color and decorating scheme.
I didn’t choose my kitchen, it’s how we bought it. Black laminate tops with some white and some wood. Nothing like a kitchen I’d create, but functional enough.
L ~ Love–what is your favorite part of homemaking?
Creating a home where everyone feels comfortable - family and guests. Also, staying on top of the million tasks is a real accomplishment!
M ~ Mop–y/n?
Yes, but not often enough. I use hot water and Enjo. Sometimes I add a couple of drops of essential oil (Lemon Myrtle is my favourite).
N ~ Nylons, machine or hand wash?
Nylons?
O ~ Oven–do you use the window or open the oven to check?
Both.
P ~ Pizza–What do you put on yours?
Tomato sauce/paste mix, mushrooms, capsicum, onion, black olives and grated cheddar. I love pizzas like roast pumpkin, spinach and fetta, but no one else here does.
Q ~ Quiet–What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment?
It’s never quiet here during the day!
R ~ Recipe Card Box–y/n? What does it look like?
I have one. It’s blue with a mosaic on top. My friend Lauren made it (and the cards) for me. I use it for recipes we use over and over.
S ~ Style of house–What style is your house?
It’s quite basic - rectangular, beige, about 23 years old. It was a steel-framed kit home and has had a bit added to it.
T ~ Tablecloths or Placemats?
Tablecloths always. We have a big square table and change the tablecloth after the evening meal. Most of my tablecloths are blue.
U ~ Under the kitchen sink–organized or toxic wasteland?
Well-organised and recently cleaned out by our WWOOFer Julia.
V ~ Vacuum–How many times per week?
Sweep daily, vacuum every week or two (whole house) and small areas like the fireplace in between.
W ~ Wash–How many loads of laundry do you do per week?
I do three loads most days, so that’s over 20 loads a week! I’m trying to cut down. It’s less in summer when clothes are lighter.
X’s–Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off?
Most of the time. When I do, I am far more productive and organised.
Y ~ Yard–y/n? Who does what?
We have a big house yard, about 3-4 acres. The children and I mow close to the house, my husband slashes with the tractor around the outside. I do all the gardening - vegetables etc, but he does any major pruning and tree lopping. I do all the tree-planting, tend to the orchard etc.
ZZZ’s–what is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed?
Taking all cups and glasses to the kitchen sink, checking that my husband has lunch organised, throwing a block of wood in the fireplace if it’s going, and putting on a load of washing to be ready for when I wake up! Doing a couple of things at night makes a big difference the next day…
I saw this at Rural Writings and decided to play.
Good fun. I’ve seen this on a couple of blogs and will have to do it one day.
